The Jury selection committee is proud to announce, Catharine Clark, as our juror for Sexism: A Touchy Subject, an open call for the 26th annual Silicon Valley Women's Caucus for Art (SVWCA) Member's Exhibition. Ms. Clark is the founder and gallerist of the Catharine Clark Gallery of San Francisco and New York City. A San Francisco native, Catharine has lived in London, Bologna and Philadelphia, where she attended the University of Pennsylvania earning a BA with honors in Art History. She has guest lectured and served as a panelists at universities, museums, and other institutions. She is looked for the very best work you can deliver to the exhibition. You'll have a double chance to be in the show, as we are post an online show with the potential for more than the Arc Gallery can hold, as well as produce a juried catalog, including a statement written by Ms. Clark. We plan to submit our catalog to The Feminist Art Project (TFAP) at Rutgers University. |
PROSPECTUS
Sexism today is a touchy subject. Sex, when used as the basis for discrimination is called sexism, a term coined in the 1960s. Yet even now, a half century later, a definition has never reached consensus. Why?
- Is it the belief that one sex is intrinsically inferior?
- Do genders think differently about sex and all its related matters?
- Is this nature so deep in our psyche it exists in a realm beyond our reach?
The gender “wars” are exhausting. But is it better to avoid the topic? What is just, when it comes to a woman? Good, bad, or ugly. What can you say about sexism? Rosie the Riveter or Lady Madonna? #artandfeminism
